GARDEN SURPRISES

Lessons I learned about God from my garden ……  Margré A. Hays

1. God is the master designer of my garden (life)

Jeremiah 29:11  “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

2. Dying is necessary in order to get life

John 12:24 “Unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed.  But if it dies, it produces many seeds.  The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.”

3. Growth needs water, light and compost.

Isaiah 58:13  “The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame.  You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.”

4. Bearing fruit involves pruning.

John 15:1-2  “I am the vine and my Father is the gardener.  He cuts off every  branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, so that it will be even more fruitful.”

5. Be prepared for trouble in your garden.

Ephesians. 6:13  “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”

6. What you’ll sow, you’ll reap

Galatians 6:7 and 8  “A man reaps what he sows.  The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”

7. “Smell the roses!”

Song of Solomon 6:2  “My lover has gone down to his garden, to the beds of spices, to browse in the gardens and to gather lilies.”

One more thing

Jeremiah 17:7 and 8 “Blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.  They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water.  Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought.  Their leaves stay green, and they go right on producing delicious fruit.”
